Abstract:
Urban agglomerations have become hotspots of construction land expansion. Investigating the evolution of habitat quality patterns and analyzing their response mechanisms to land use are crucial for promoting new-type urbanization and establishing ecological security patterns. Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration was taken as the study area; the habitat quality from 2000 to 2023 was evaluated using InVEST model, and the spatial clustering characteristics of land use intensity and habitat quality were explored through bivariate spatial autocorrelation analysis. The results show that ① land use intensity continuously increases from 2000 to 2023 with the land use change rate exhibiting a phased trend of “slow growth→accelerated expansion→decelerated growth→secondary acceleration→gradual stabilization”; the most rapid land use change occur from 2005 to 2010 with a dynamic degree of 9.65% and an expansion of construction land by 379.39 km2. ② Overall habitat quality initially degrades and later tends to stabilize, exhibiting a spatial pattern of higher quality in periphery area and lower quality in central urban zones, with habitat degradation concentrated in the outer zones of urban cores and along major transportation corridors. ③ A significant spatial negative correlation is observed between land use intensity and habitat quality in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration, and the increasing Moran's I over time indicates a deepening interdependency since 2015. To ensure sustainable development, it is recommended that Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration enhance spatial governance of urban construction and protect high-quality ecological spaces to stabilize and optimize habitat quality.
