Abstract:
The exploration and development of shale gas from Longmaxi Formation in Upper Yangtze region make a great breakthrough. The sedimentary stratum from Gaojiabian Formation in Lower Yangtze region belongs to the same period as that of Longmaxi Formation in Upper Yangtze region, but the potential of shale gas is unknown. The LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating of tuff interlayer from Gaojiabian Formation in Lunshan area of Jiangsu was measured; the sedimentary age, palaeoenvironment, and potential of shale gas from Gaojiabian Formation were discussed; meanwhile, the comparison between Gaojiabian Formation in Lower Yangtze region and Longmaxi Formation in Upper Yangtze region was analyzed. The results show that Gaojiabian Formation is emplaced in (442.8±2.6)Ma, belonging to Early Silurian, and it is the first time to acquire an accurate and reliable chronology constraint of Gaojiabian Formation in Lower Yangtze region; the sediment water of Gaojiabian Formation is reducing environment; the total organic carbon (2%-4%) of Gaojiabian Formation is moderately high with strong capacity of hydrocarbon generation, and the vitrinite reflectance is 1.5%-2.3%, reflecting the thermal evolution degree is highmature late stage; the total organic carbon, vitrinite reflectance, lithological association, types of graptolites and sedimentary environment of Gaojiabian Formation in Lower Yangtze region are highly similar to those of Longmaxi Formation in Upper Yangtze region, suggesting that Gaojiabian Formation has good potential of shale gas.
