Abstract:
Water and energy have become hot-topics of global concern. The innovations and improvements of new technologies, such as the combination of horizontal wells and staged fracturing technologies, have contributed to the possibility of realizing shale energy production while increasing the dependence of energy on water resources. The amount of water required for hydraulic fracturing and the amount and quality of wastewater generated from shale gas exploitation operations is one of the cores of shale gas exploration. Taking the shale gas exploitation area in South Sichuan Basin as an example, the possible shale gas exploration impacts on the regional water resources system and ecosystem were analyzed. It proposes that conventional energy development needs develope in coordination with water resources, and looking forward to furthering energy development and management. Some critical factors have non-negligible impacts on the regional ecological environment, such as national energy safety requirements, corporate energy planning, corporate construction technology, and wastewater recycling technologies. To ensure the safety of ecological environment in shale gas exploitation area, corporations should take safety environmental protection measures, and government should establish shale gas-ecological environment management regulations.
